Amy O – Rest Stop

Amy O has an album called Shell which will be released on October 25, via one of popbollocks’ favorite labels, Winspear. Here, artist label deliver a dispatch of typically understated beauty. It’s a track called ‘Rest Stop’.

Brevity lends to the charm of a track whose focus is the end of summer, and also some other things; the ending of one chapter, and the commencement of another stage of life. Amy O sings, in her smoother than honey sweetness, of yellow curtains, bees, and a face that can illuminate a room.

There is a natural pause in the gravity of O’s voice. She notices, and quietly celebrates the details of life that we notice around change. “I’ll guess I’ll stay. I can’t go back there anyway.” She says, nodding to the process of being alive. It’s a perfectly proportioned track, and it’s sensitivity around the bigger, sometimes confusing aspects, is extraordinary.

Amy O is on tour. If you’re in a town she’s visiting you should consider checking her out.
