Death Valley Girls – Wear Black

Death Valley Girls have just shared ‘Wear Black’ – a track lifted from their stellar album, Darkness Rains. (Suicide Squeeze Records). One of the sweetest cuts from the album is accompanied by a video, which you can watch below.

‘Wear Black’ illustrates the sound of Death Valley Girls well. Spaced-out punk rock where the gravel of guitars is held in high regard – driven, bottomless percussion, and a psychedelic twinge of vocal delivery.

Clearly fond of the classics from genre, Death Valley Girls distinguish themselves from simple retro-sounds, with a contemporary twist in lyrics. “I can’t take you back” Is a line from a modern soul with standards, slipped into track that arrives with distinct halloween vibes.

Accompanying video is shot by Brendan McKnight. We see the energy of the band on stage. The sweat and smudged lipstick are laid over women rolling down stairs, horror footage from b-movie classics. It’s the kind of video that should be projected against walls at halloween parties as license for grotesque and improbable activities unfold.

Death Valley Girls have just wrapped up one tour, and are about to embark on another. Check out the video for ‘Wear Back’ then scroll down for live dates, and your chance to go see a band that Iggy Pop described as “… a gift to the world.”
