KOKOKO! – Buka Dansa

Last week Kokoko! released their better-than-good remix of The Chemical Brothers ‘Eve of Destruction’, introducing the uninitiated to The Congolese collective, who have been working outside of the mainstream for some time. The band’s most recent album Fongola blends agit-punk, Soukous and western EDM to produce a sound that sits above all genre definition, and dances well on most floors. Lifted from Fongola is the new single ‘Buka Dansa’, which comes with an accompanying video, sharing the typical visceral appeal of all KOKOKO!s visual work.

Percussive melodies, driven energy, and undeniably compelling vocal work brings the story of ‘Buka Dansa’. Warmer in tone than tracks like ‘Azo Toke‘ the video is less surreally visceral. But the earthy street vibe remains intact, undulating between aspirational wishes and dance hall realities.

Currently on tour in the USA Kokoko! will soon be heading to Europe. You should go see ’em live.
