Panda Bear – playing the long game

Today Animal Collective’s Panda Bear, aka Noah Lennox, has released a new track with accompanying video. ‘playing the long game’ is a standalone single, with visuals directed by Fernanda Pereira.

Musically the tone of ‘playing the long game’ continues the quality to be expected from Panda Bear. The palette of synth-beds ruffle the sheets, and the beat sounds ready for dance-floor remix. Solid pop with a dark center, shimmering with touches from Rusty Santos, a long time collaborator of Lennox.

Lyrically Panda Bear appears blissed out and perhaps pleasingly bewildered in a search for identity, or meaning within a certain moment. Speaking about the track and video Lennox said: “We had a good time making this video across the river. Thanks to everyone involved to make it happen.  The song is about a brief series of thoughts I had one morning about who I am, what I’m doing, and where I’m going. Hope you enjoy it and hope all’s well.”

The visuals from Pereira lay super-imposed images over images. Lennox wonders and wanders. People in masks pursue. There is water, there are fields. The colors come in like dreams. The song is the same.
